Unforced Rhythms of Grace
When I moved to Nashville nine months ago, the first church I visited was Midtown Fellowship, located in downtown Nashville. At that first visit, there were a number of things that stood out to me that I liked, including the … Continue reading

The God we would rather have
We are your people and mostly we don’t mind, except that you do not fit any of our categories. We keep pushing and pulling and twisting and turning, trying to make you fit the God we would rather have, and … Continue reading

Morality = Holiness?
One of the many books I’m currently working my way through is Walter Brueggemann’s Hopeful Imagination: Prophetic Voices in Exile. After blogging recently about Christianity vs. Morality, Brueggemann’s caution against reducing God’s Holiness to mere moral categories caught my attention. … Continue reading

Transubstantiation, Consubstantiation, and Oversimplification
I heard a sermon Sunday on the Lord’s Supper that reinforced one of the points Shaun Groves made when he taught on the same subject recently in IKON. Shaun was talking about the differing views of what happens while taking … Continue reading

“Rapture Ready” or “How to Misinterpret Scripture”
In light of current events in the Middle East, statements currently being made by various Christian leaders such as this one by Jerry Falwell: Quite likely, the most important date of the past 20 centuries, since the resurrection of Christ, … Continue reading

Crystal Ball
I posted this in the comments section of my last post but just read it again and decided it needed more attention: “The problem with the evangelicals who turn the Bible into a kind of crystal ball is that they … Continue reading
