Handbells

I played in a handbell choir my uncle directed for a couple years when I lived in Chattanooga, so when I moved to Nashville and a friend asked if I wanted to play in the choir his wife directs, I jumped right in. We played two songs this past Sunday, and someone was on hand to record the performance. I’m the guy with two bells in each hand.

  1. Very cool! Thanks for posting these, I enjoyed them very much.

Do most of the people participating know how to read music, or is this a thing where you can teach them to “count notes” and highlight their parts in red or something?

  2. Stephen says:

The choir is probably about half and half, or maybe 70/30, with people who can read music and people who put a colored sticker on the handbell and then highlight every note they have to play in the piece. Which means you sometimes get what you hear in the first video, where someone picked up the wrong bell – an Fnat instead of F# – and played it the entire piece.
