    You know, for being such an irreverent man, Carlin was a thoughtful man.

    I heard NPR replay and interview he did in the early 90s, talking about the evolution from “shell shock” to “post traumatic stress disorder” and his comments on how it completely dehumanized what happened to the person. He ruminated on how the Vietnam vets might have been treated differently if it were still called “shell shocked”.

    I think Carlin stands above a lot of other comedians because of that. And there are many comedians who followed him with similar profane routines, but didn’t make any difference because that’s all they had, there wasn’t anything behind it.
